PrésentationLaurent BAYLY is a self taught photographer who lives in Saint Martin, French West Indies
As pictures influence the way we look., his photography aims to change one's perception of reality. He takes pictures of our everyday landscapes. Unfortunately, some of those places have been damaged by the touristic an/or colonial stereotypes that some pictures convey (The French Riviera, The Caribbean). Showing them trough natural and artificial screens, like filters between our eyes and reality helps us question our perception of reality
Laurent BAYlY is a membre of Headmade Factory, a Saint Martin collective of artists whose members are mainly painters and visual artists. Hence his work tries to establish connection with painting and may be influence by 19th century pictoriality photography. He also claims the heritage of French humanist photography and Street photography. He works also as a portait photographer. |
